Parliament House
|
|
(Edinburgh) Building of 1632–40 in *Parliament Square, to which the Scottish parliament moved in 1639 from its previous meeting place in *Edinburgh Castle. When the parliament ceased to exist in 1707 (with the Act of *Union), Parliament House became home to the two highest courts of law in Scotland, the Court of Session and the High Court of Justiciary. The adjacent Parliament Hall, a Gothic building with a hammer-beam roof, is used as a public concourse by those involved in the business of the courts.
