Car company founded by William Morris (later Lord *Nuffield) in Oxford in 1912. His first machine, the two-seater Morris Oxford of 1913, became a bestselling model, known affectionately as the Bullnose Morris from the shape of its radiator. The factory was just south of Oxford at Cowley, which was the name of the next model, also bull-nosed and launched in 1915. Both the Oxford and Cowley remained in production until 1926, while the *MG was an offshoot of the same period. The years after World War II saw two immensely successful designs by *Issigonis, the Morris Minor (launched in 1948, re-using a name from 1929) and in 1959 the *Mini. By then the company had merged with *Austin to form the British Motor Corporation.
