(15km/9m NE of Guildford) *Landscape garden of the mid-18C, created by Charles Hamilton with a range of natural vistas and artificial follies around its lake and islands. Once a worthy rival to Stowe and Stourhead, it had fallen into neglect until recovered in recent years by an ambitious programme of restoration. The Gothic Temple, the Chinese Bridge, the Grotto, the Water Wheel and the Ruined Abbey are now once again much as Hamilton intended.
