Norfolk Broads
|
|
Area to the east of Norwich, containing sluggish rivers (the Yare, Waveney and Bure) which meander between the broads (large lagoons of shallow water, the flooded sites of old peat workings) to converge on Breydon Water before reaching the east coast at Great Yarmouth. The region is an important nature reserve and Britain's favourite place for boating holidays, two functions which are to some extent incompatible. Wroxham Broad is considered one of the most beautiful. Hickling Broad, the largest, is a bird sanctuary – as also is Ranworth Broad, with its floating conservation centre.
