(1930) Children's story by Enid Bagnold (1889–1981) which fulfils the daydream of every pony-club teenage girl. Velvet Brown wins The Piebald in a raffle, and together they go on to win the *Grand National. The film (1944) starred the 12-year-old Elizabeth *Taylor as Velvet.
