(York) Museum which opened in 1975, combining the holdings of the previous LNER museum at York and of the British Transport Commission's museum at Clapham, in London. The collection of railway carriages includes those used by Queen Victoria and subsequent monarchs; and among the locomotives is Mallard, holder of the record for a steam engine with a speed of 203kph/126mph over a short distance in 1938.
