National Art Collections Fund

|
Britain's largest art charity, funded by donations and by the subscriptions of some 30,000 members. It was founded in 1903 in response to the amount of art leaving the country. The first triumph was the purchase in 1905 of the *Rokeby Venus, which was then given to the National Gallery. Since then the Fund has contributed to the cost of more than 10,000 items in the fine and decorative arts, all of which are now in public museums, galleries or historic houses.
