Malcolm Muggeridge
|
|
(1903–90) Journalist and broadcaster, notable for the trenchant wit with which he was able to undermine the certainties of those with whom he disagreed. The targets of this wit changed dramatically during his life. The young Muggeridge was left-wing, self-indulgent and sceptical; the older man, known to some as St Mugg, was reactionary, ascetic and a committed Christian; but at neither extreme was he pompous.
