Moss Side
|
|
Area of south Manchester developed from the late 19C as a district of working-class terrace houses. Many were demolished and replaced by modern blocks in the 1970s. There were riots in July 1981, and by the early 1990s – with an extremely high level of unemployment – Moss Side had become notorious for drugs-related violence. In calmer days the district produced the first *Tiller girls.
