(37km/23m W of Ipswich) The best preserved of the Suffolk towns which grew rich in the 15C from the wool trade, with unspoilt streets of half-timber houses (the early 16C Guildhall is the outstanding example). The parish church of St Peter and St Paul, with its huge tower and excellent interior carving, was built between 1480 and 1530.
