(13,000 in 1991) Town in Dyfed, established in the 1790s beside the natural harbour from which it takes its name. This had been for many centuries the normal place of departure for armies crossing to Ireland, and it was here that *Henry VII landed in 1485 to make his bid for the crown. The town has had a new lease of life in the second half of the 20C as an oil terminal, since the deep waters of the harbour can accommodate vast modern tankers.
