Britain's best-known series of relatively cheap sports cars. They were developed by Cecil Kimber, the manager of Morris Garages (the origin of the initials MG). He commissioned six in 1923 using the Morris-Cowley chassis, and two years later began producing custom-built cars for sporting competition from a factory at Abingdon in Berkshire. The enterprise remained part of the *Morris group, and as such became absorbed in 1952 in the *British Motor Corporation.
