Meccano
|
|
Children's engineering construction kit of girders, bolts and pulleys, patented in Liverpool in 1893 by Frank Hornby (1863–1936). He marketed Meccano from 1901, and Meccano Ltd later became the parent company producing his famous Hornby trains (from 1920) and Dinky Toy model cars (from the 1930s). The Hornby range became part of Triang Railways in 1964. Meccano continued to be manufactured in Liverpool until the factory closed in the early 1990s.
