Leeds United

, known as United (Elland Road, Leeds).
Football club formed in 1919 when an earlier team, Leeds City, was expelled from the *Football League after allegations of illegal payments to players. United had their greatest successes during the years when Don *Revie was manager (1961–74). After a long spell in Division 2 from 1982, they returned to Division 1 in 1990 and won the championship in 1992. Club victories: FA Cup 1972; League Champions 1969, 74, 92; League Cup 1968; European Fairs Cup 1968, 71.
