Major Barbara
|
|
(1905) Play by George Bernard *Shaw which turns upside down easy preconceptions about where virtue lies. It contrasts the arms manufacturer Andrew Undershaft with his daughter Barbara, who has become a major in the Salvation Army in protest against the evil source of their family wealth. She receives a double shock, first in hearing that the shelter she runs for the poor has been funded by profits from whisky and then in discovering that her father is a model employer.
