Macbeth
|
|
(d. 1057) King of Scotland from 1040, after killing *Duncan in battle near Elgin (rather than murdering him in bed, as in Shakespeare's play). He and Duncan were cousins, each with a roughly equal claim to the throne through their mothers. After a relatively peaceful reign of 17years, Macbeth was in turn killed in battle by Duncan's son, *Malcolm III.
