Lyonesse

Mythical submerged land between Cornwall and the Scilly Isles. As legends go, this one is recent. To an old and not improbable tradition that Cornwall and the Scillies were once joined, there was added in the 16C the concept of Lyonesse as a lost kingdom. The name, that of the supposed birthplace of *Tristan, had featured in Malory's *Morte d'Arthur.
