One of Scotland's leading *public schools for boys, near Musselburgh on the Firth of Forth. It was founded in 1827 by a clergyman, the Rev. Thomas Langhorne (d. 1848). It is unusual in having its own junior school, on the other side of the river Esk. Since 1981 girls have been admitted to the senior school for the last two years, in the sixth form.
