Ancient town and the oldest bishopric in Wales, now effectively a northern suburb of Cardiff. The first bishop was St Teilo, in the 6C, and the cathedral was built on the site of his church. The present structure dates from about 1120 but has been frequently restored, most recently after extensive damage from an air raid in 1941. It was then that the famous central feature was added, an organ loft bearing a sculpture by *Epstein of Christ in Majesty.
