(1792–1866) Clergyman and poet who was one of the leaders of the *Oxford Movement. He published in 1827 The Christian Year, probably the century's bestselling volume of sacred verse. A great many of its poems were later adapted as hymns, among them *New every morning is the love. Keble College at Oxford was founded in his memory four years after his death.
