Idylls of the King
|
|
(1859–85) Series of 12 linked poems by *Tennyson, the first four of which were published under this title in 1859. The king is *Arthur, and the material is taken mainly from the *Morte d'Arthur and the *Mabinogion. Misty legends, medieval costume and Victorian sentiment combined to make them immensely successful with Tennyson's public.
