Organization which uses direct confrontation, sometimes involving criminal acts of terrorism, against any enterprise which it considers cruel to animals. It began in the early 1970s as the Band of Mercy, and was at that time committed to non-violence. The change of name came a few years later, coinciding with the adoption of a militant policy.
