Len Hutton
|
|
(1916–90, kt 1956) One of the greatest English batsmen, playing *cricket for Yorkshire (1934–55) and for England (1937–55, captain 1952–5). His 364 runs against Australia at the Oval in 1938 remain (in 1992) the highest England innings in a *Test match and only one run short of the world record (365 by Sobers in 1958). In 1952 Hutton became the first professional to captain England since Arthur Shrewsbury in 1886–7.
