(London SW1) Building on Whitehall, constructed for the royal cavalry in 1750–8 to a design by William *Kent. The *changing of the guard takes place each morning in the small courtyard on the Whitehall side of the archway. The large parade ground on the other side is the site of the annual ceremony of *trooping the colour.
