Highland fling
|
|
An energetic solo male dance in Scotland, possibly originating as a victory dance and now much performed in competition at *Highland games. It consists of a series of complex steps danced on one spot, usually with one hand above the head and the other on the hip. In the most characteristic step the dancer hops on one foot while moving the pointed toe of the other rapidly to and fro round the calf.
