Henry Smith's Kensington Estate Charity
|
|
(London SW7) One of Britain's largest charitable foundations thanks to a far-sighted investment in the 1620s. The charity was established by a philanthropic London salter (who listed among his purposes the freeing of 'poor captives, being slaves under the Turkish pirates'). His trustees bought a farm in Kensington, now one of the most fashionable districts of London. The charity specializes in health and social welfare.
