Head of the River Race
|
|
Annual professional rowing race, first held on the Thames in 1926 and now one of the largest-scale events in Britain's sporting calendar. A glorified version of a *bumping race, it involves 420 eights, usually about 60 of them from abroad. They start at 10 second intervals over a course from Mortlake to Putney – the *Boat Race course in reverse. It is held on a Saturday in March.
