Joseph Hansom
|
|
(1803–82) Architect and designer, who in 1834 patented his idea for a 'safety cab'. The eventual result was the light and fast hansom cab (familiar in mid-19C images of the streets of London), though his concept had been much altered by others before the vehicle came into general use. A more lasting achievement was his 1831 design for the new town hall in *Birmingham.
