(1898–1989) Bandleader who formed the BBC Dance Orchestra in 1932 and became a national figure from 1934 with his weekly Guest Night. His signing-off tune at the end of each programme was a song written by himself, either Here's to the Next Time (1932) or It's Time to say Goodnight (1934).
