Gurkha
|
|
The ruling house of Nepal, and the name in common use for any citizen of Nepal serving in the British army. The Nepalese are famous for their martial spirit, and there were Gurkhas in the army in India from 1815. Gurkha regiments distinguished themselves in both World Wars, and after the independence of India several battalions remained as regular soldiers within the British army.
