Greenwich meridian

The line of longitude passing through the *Royal Observatory at Greenwich, where its position is marked by a brass rail set in concrete. It was accepted internationally in 1884 as the prime meridian, or 0° longitude, from which other lines of longitude are calculated in degrees east or west.
