Great Plague
|
|
(1665) Plague which killed some 70,000 Londoners (about 1 in 7 of the city's population). Although plagues were common occurrences, spread by the fleas from rats in crowded urban conditions, this was by far the worst outbreak since the *Black Death. Daniel *Defoe's Journal of the Plague Year is a semi-fictional account. In the following year London suffered another disaster, the *Great Fire.
