(1934) Novel by James Hilton (1900–54), following the career of a teacher in an English *public school from persecution by the boys in his early years to eventual high status as an elderly eccentric. It was filmed in 1939 with Robert Donat (1905–58) in the title role, and in 1969 with Peter O'Toole.
