George Formby
|
|
(stage name of George Booth, 1904–61) *Music-hall entertainer from Lancashire who became a national favourite and a successful film star, by projecting a cheerfully gormless character with a wide toothy grin. He strummed on a ukulele-banjo to accompany his faintly saucy patter songs, such as When I'm cleanin' windows. His father had been in music hall using the same name.
