Festival of Britain
|
|
(1951) Exhibition and season of festivities held on the south bank of the Thames in central London, marking the centenary of the *Great Exhibition and celebrating postwar Britain. The *Festival Hall is the only feature of it to survive, though the event launched the *South Bank as an area for the arts. Other central features were the Dome of Discovery and the Skylon, a futuristic version of an obelisk.
