(1921–3) Entertainment with music by William *Walton to a series of staccato poems by Edith *Sitwell, declaimed originally by the poet herself to specific and syncopated rhythms. Composed in 1921, it was performed privately in 1922 and in public in 1923. The music was used in 1931 for a ballet of the same name by *Ashton for the Camargo Society, which has been a popular item in the repertoire ever since.
