, known as the Toffeemen or Toffees (Goodison Park, Liverpool). Football club formed by the St Domingo Sunday School in 1878; it changed its name to Everton the following year and turned professional in 1885, becoming a founder member of the *Football League in 1888. From 1884 they played at Anfield Road, and it was their departure to Goodison Park in 1892 which led to the formation of a new club in the district, *Liverpool.
