(Greek for 'image of a king', 1649) Collection of meditations and prayers, supposedly written by *Charles I in captivity, published on the day of the executed king's burial. The book had an immense effect, which parliament attempted to counter with a less successful reply later in the same year – *Milton's Eikonoklastes ('Image Breaker').
