Edinburgh airport
|
|
In origin one of Britain's earliest surviving airports, dating back to a grass strip at Turnhouse used for training by the Royal Flying Corps during World War I. It remained a military airport until 1947, when BEA began the first commercial service between London and Edinburgh; but it was not until 1976 that an appropriate terminal building was opened. Edinburgh is now second only to Glasgow among Scotland's airports.
