(stage name of Patrick Kay, 1904–83, kt 1981) English dancer, choreographer and pioneer of British ballet. He danced in Diaghilev's 1921 production of Sleeping Beauty, and in 1924 he joined Ballets Russes as a soloist, creating in that year a leading role in Nijinska's Le Train Bleu. In 1930 he was a founder member of the Camargo Society, and in 1935 he began a fruitful partnership with *Markova. They formed several companies together, most notably the one which became the *English National Ballet.
