The Diary of a Country Parson
|
|
The title given to the published version (5 vols, 1924–31) of the diary of James Woodforde (1740–1803). He lived in his parish of Weston Longeville in Norfolk for his last 27 years, and the great appeal of the diary lies in the matter-of-fact enthusiasm with which he records the details of everyday country life (with special and prolonged emphasis on his own meals). The diary begins in 1758 when he is a student at Oxford and continues until six weeks before his death.
