Devonshire Hunting Tapestries
|
|
(Victoria and Albert Museum) Four large tapestries (on average about 4.3m/14ft high and 10m/33ft wide) depicting courtly figures in spectacularly lavish costumes engaged in the pursuit of boars, bears, deer and other animals. They were made in the 15C in northern France or Belgium, probably either at Arras or Tournai. Before coming to the V&A they used to hang in the long gallery at *Hardwick Hall.
