Alfred Deller
|
|
(1912–79) Countertenor whose strength and purity of voice led to a revival of interest in the castrato roles of the 17–18C being sung by men. He formed in 1948 the Deller Consort for the authentic performance of baroque music. In 1960 he created the role of Oberon in Benjamin Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream.
