|
(Cecil Day-Lewis, 1904–72) Poet and author of detective fiction. Between the wars he was a member of the group of left-wing poets led by W.H. Auden, but he later became more of an establishment figure and was appointed *poet laureate in 1968. He used the pseudonym Nicholas Blake for his novels, in which the detective (Nigel Strangeways) was loosely based on Auden.
