Dartington
|
|
(26km/16m NW of Dartmouth) Village in Devon where Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst established in the 1920s a trust specializing in agriculture, rural crafts and education. Its centre is the 14C Dartington Hall (a manor house with a surviving great hall), and its best-known element has been the progressive Dartington school. This closed in 1987 but many of the craft activities continue, in particular the blowing of glass (in north Devon, at Great Torrington).
