curry

|
Any dish prepared with hot spices, of a kind which has become popular in Britain through the country's involvement with India; the word derives from kari ('sauce' in Tamil), a spicy concoction of vegetables, fish or meat adding flavour to a meal of rice. By the early 19C curry powder was available, providing ground turmeric and other mixed spices in a convenient form.
