Cotswolds
|
|
Range of gently rolling limestone hills much intersected by small deep valleys, stretching about 80km/50m northeast from Bath. The area has been rich since medieval times, originally thanks to the wool of the Cotswold sheep. Stone quarried here weathers to a lovely pale grey, resulting in many exceptionally attractive small towns and villages, comfortably settled in the landscape, which have given the region its high reputation for charm and beauty.
