Christian Aid
|
|
(London SE1) The relief and development agency of the British Council of Churches, working in more than 70 countries. It derives from an initiative by British churches in 1944 to raise money for relief in a Europe shattered by war. The first Christian Aid week, with door-to-door collections throughout the country, was held in 1957 and has become a familiar annual fixture. The charity itself adopted the name Christian Aid in 1964.
