(1885–1948, kt 1931) Racing motorist who set many early speed records on land and water. He raised the land speed record from 235kph/146mph in 1924 to 484kph/301mph in 1935; his final water speed record was 228kph/142mph on Coniston Water in 1939. From 1927 all his vehicles, on either surface, were named Bluebird – a custom continued by his son, Donald *Campbell.
