Donald Campbell

(1921–67)
Specialist in speed who followed his father, Malcolm *Campbell, in attaining records on land (648kph/403mph in Australia in 1964) and on water (325kph/202mph on Ullswater in 1955; 418kph/260mph on Coniston Water in 1960; 444kph/276mph in Australia in 1964). He died in 1967 when his jet-powered Bluebird somersaulted at more than 480kph/300mph on Coniston Water. The Bluebird in which he broke the land speed record in 1964 is now at *Beaulieu.
